OCT Technology

More Than An Eye Doctor

Regular visits to your optometrist have long been recognized as essential for the early diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of a wide range of conditions. Several types of cancer, diabetes, potential strokes or aneurysms, multiple sclerosis, lupus, rheumatoid arthritis, many common STDs, and a dozen other potential problems can be detected by our team at Eye Site Texas through regular eye exams. As with so many things, the earlier a problem or potential problem can be detected, the better the chances of preventing, reducing, or otherwise controlling it successfully.

Our eye doctors at Eye Site Texas never lose sight of the importance of treating the whole patient. We are committed to caring for your vision and comfort, partnering with you to keep your eyes healthy and your family fully informed along the way. We recognize, however, that the best eye doctor is the one who most clearly sees the full picture. We know that you have options when choosing a full-service optometrist in Katy, and we want to earn that relationship during every visit.

Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT)

Optical Coherence Tomography, or OCT, is an amazing tool that our eye doctors can use to more thoroughly examine the inner workings of your eye. It is completely non-invasive. Sometimes we do not even have to use the dilating eye drops. OCT uses long-wavelength, broad bandwidth light to create a three-dimensional “map” of your retina and measure the way that light reflects off your retinal tissues.

Your retina is packed with millions of light-sensitive cells (rods and cones) and other receptors. It gathers visual input to send along to your brain, which then tells you what you see. Even microscopic damage can dramatically diminish your vision. The OCT helps our eye doctors locate and analyze that damage earlier than almost any other method.

Detecting Health Conditions

The OCT can detect, among other things, the earliest indications of glaucoma, macular degeneration, and optic nerve damage. It can alert our eye doctors to a half-dozen varieties of retinopathy. In short, many of the things that our optometrist in Katy is already good at doing, the OCT helps us do them more effectively.
