Contact Lenses

When you are ready to trade in your glasses for contact lenses, there are a few things you should know in order to make the transition as easily as possible.

You should bring your current pair of prescription glasses with you to the appointment. Female patients should avoid wearing any makeup to this appointment so that the doctor can clearly see your eyes during the contacts eye exam.

What to Expect During Your Exam

During your contact lenses exam, Dr. Mohanan will take your case history, perform a general exam and also ask about your lifestyle. These questions will help her determine what types of lenses will best suit your lifestyle and activities. She will also allow you to try out the lenses to see if they are comfortable. Usually you will be asked to remain at the office while the contact lenses settle. Once your vision has been checked you will be taught how to put the lenses in and take them out as well as how to care for them.

Lenses and Lifestyle

During the exam, the doctor will decide if certain materials are more suited to your age and activity level. Children and adolescents usually do best with disposable lenses which require little additional evaluations and follow up care.  Daily disposable eye contacts are the safest way to wear contacts because they carry with them the least chance of infection. These are very good for individuals who find that they do not have time for meticulous cleaning.

Can Anyone Use Contacts?

Most anyone dealing with vision challenges can use contact lenses, however, there can be certain conditions which will prevent individuals from using contacts. However, Dr. Mohanan will need to do a thorough exam in order to determine if you fall into this category.

Risks of Contact Lenses

One of the greatest risks of contact lenses is an infection. Infection generally occurs as a result of poor cleaning or keeping the contact lenses improperly. Occasionally, contact lenses can cause other types of irritation and it is important to contact your doctor immediately if you begin to experience these types of problems. Just because you experience a problem like this does not mean you will never be able to wear contacts again. It could just mean you need contacts made with a different material or a different size.

Can You Sleep In Contacts?

Occasionally, you may fall asleep with your contacts still in. It is best to take them out after using lubricating drops. This is because taking out a very dry off you can cause an abrasion. If after removing your lenses you sense changes in your vision or experience redness or eye pain you should see your doctor immediately.

  • "I am a very hard person to convince ... this was the right thing to do fix my eye's. But ... The whole experience from the staff to all Doctors it was painless and quick . I have 20/20 vision in one week . I cann't thank this excellent team on a super job."

  • "If I could give them 6 stars, I would. From the moment we walked in, the entire staff was very friendly, caring, attentive, and professional, not like your typical doctor's office where you feel like just another number. Astrid, Salma, and Natalia were very thorough and meticulous in taking care of my partner, as was the optometrist. My partner now has 20/20 perfect vision and couldn't be happier. Highly recommended."
