Adult and Pediatric Eye Exams

It is important for everyone to take care of their eyes. This includes children. While many people grew up going to the doctor at least once per year for an annual exam, the importance of eye exams is often overlooked. It is important for children to go to the eye doctor at least once per year for a regular vision exam. It is important for everyone to know what happens at an eye exam as well as why this is important.

First, a pediatric eye exam is important because this provides the eye doctor with an opportunity to check for vision problems that might otherwise have been overlooked. While adults regularly notice when something is wrong with their vision, this is not the case for children. Some children are too young to understand what is normal and what is not. Other children simply do not want to cause problems. The reality is that the sooner these vision problems are detected, the sooner interventions can be made. Some of these vision problems can be quite serious. When an eye doctor catches these problems early, treatment can be started sooner. This leads to better outcomes.

What Happens at an Eye Exam?

Next, it is important to take a closer look at what happens during an eye exam. First, eye doctors are trained to make sure that everyone is as comfortable as possible during the exam. The first part of every eye exam is to ask the patient to read something called a Snellen chart. This is a series of smaller and smaller lines that are designed to establish the power of the eye. The patient will be asked to read the chart with both eyes as well as with each eye individually. Then, the doctor checks the various visual fields of each eye, ensuring there are no gaps. After this, the eye doctor will check the pressure behind each individually to make sure there is no sign of glaucoma. Finally, the eye doctor will also dilate each eye to get a closer look at the retina.

  • "I am a very hard person to convince ... this was the right thing to do fix my eye's. But ... The whole experience from the staff to all Doctors it was painless and quick . I have 20/20 vision in one week . I cann't thank this excellent team on a super job."
    -Diana L S.
  • "If I could give them 6 stars, I would. From the moment we walked in, the entire staff was very friendly, caring, attentive, and professional, not like your typical doctor's office where you feel like just another number. Astrid, Salma, and Natalia were very thorough and meticulous in taking care of my partner, as was the optometrist. My partner now has 20/20 perfect vision and couldn't be happier. Highly recommended."
