What Are Progressive Glasses?

If you've worn bifocals or trifocals, you have an idea of what progressive lenses can do. Progressive lenses, also known as multifocal lenses, let you see both near and far away. They also include a section for middle distance viewing, such as when you use a computer. Unlike trifocals and bifocals, multifocals don't have lines. By combining corrective parts for three types of vision, you get the maximum vision versatility when using them.

Should I Use Multifocal Lenses?

Generally, multifocal lenses best suit those with presbyopia, an age-related vision deterioration. Those without this condition may not benefit as much from multifocal lenses. If you are not certain whether you can benefit from multifocal lenses or not, ask our optometrist about this option for correcting your vision.

What Else Should I Know?

Much like any type of corrective lenses, you will need an adjustment period as your eyes grow accustomed to looking through the progressive lenses. Though you likely will need at least a couple of weeks to feel comfortable wearing these, always talk to the optometrist about any concerns you have.

Two things determine the amount of time you need to adjust to your new glasses. First, the more often you wear them, the faster you will get used to looking through them. Next, the construction of the lenses makes a tremendous difference in both your adjustment period length and how well you see out of them. How well the glasses are made will factor into how long you need to see through them without problems, which is why finding a high-quality optometry clinic, like Optics&EYECARE is so important when you need multifocal lenses.

  • "I am a very hard person to convince ... this was the right thing to do fix my eye's. But ... The whole experience from the staff to all Doctors it was painless and quick . I have 20/20 vision in one week . I cann't thank this excellent team on a super job."

  • "If I could give them 6 stars, I would. From the moment we walked in, the entire staff was very friendly, caring, attentive, and professional, not like your typical doctor's office where you feel like just another number. Astrid, Salma, and Natalia were very thorough and meticulous in taking care of my partner, as was the optometrist. My partner now has 20/20 perfect vision and couldn't be happier. Highly recommended."
