Contact Lens Exams

Contact Lens Information for the Surrounding Communities of Ashburn, VA

Contact lenses are corrective lenses that can be worn on the eye. Modern contacts can be worn comfortably by patients suffering from a variety of vision problems. The procedure for getting contact lenses is much like the procedure for getting glasses, with a few extra steps. At Optics&EYECARE in Ashburn, our optometrist helps patients get the contact lenses that are right for them.Woman in Ashburn, VA putting in contact lens

Vision Examinations with Our Eye Doctor

The process for getting a pair of contact lenses starts with a vision and eye examination. Before our optometrist can prescribe contact lenses for you, he or she must know the state of your eye health and your level of refractive error. Our Ashburn eye doctor will test for conditions like glaucoma and cataracts, and he or she will test your level of nearsightedness and farsightedness. Once our optometrist knows the health of your eyes, he or she will be able to prescribe the right contact lenses for your condition.

Contact Lens Examinations

After the standard vision examination, you'll have to get a contact lens examination. Contact lens examinations test the surface of your eyes and your tear film. These tests will tell our optometrist whether or not you're a good candidate for contact lenses, and what kind of contact lenses will be right for your needs. There are many different types of contact lenses, but the two most common contacts include:

  • Soft contacts. One of the most popular choices among contact-wearers, soft contacts are made from a flexible plastic. Soft contacts allow oxygen to pass through the plastic to the corneas. These contacts are easy to adapt to and are therefore preferred by many people with contact lenses, especially new contact lens wearers. Unfortunately, soft contacts do not correct all vision problems and therefore are not an option for all patients.

  • Rigid gas permeable contacts. These contacts are made of a rigid, durable plastic that transmit oxygen to the cornea. Many contact wearers shy away from these types of contacts because they have a longer adaptation period and therefore can seem relatively uncomfortable at first. However, there are some benefits to rigid gas permeable contacts (such as their sturdiness) that can make these contacts a better option for some patients.

  • "I am a very hard person to convince ... this was the right thing to do fix my eye's. But ... The whole experience from the staff to all Doctors it was painless and quick . I have 20/20 vision in one week . I cann't thank this excellent team on a super job."

  • "If I could give them 6 stars, I would. From the moment we walked in, the entire staff was very friendly, caring, attentive, and professional, not like your typical doctor's office where you feel like just another number. Astrid, Salma, and Natalia were very thorough and meticulous in taking care of my partner, as was the optometrist. My partner now has 20/20 perfect vision and couldn't be happier. Highly recommended."
