Conditions Diagnosed With the OCT Machine
Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) is a non-invasive tool used by eye doctors to create images of the retina. It can be used to detect eye issues before the patient experiences symptoms. This device is a wonderful addition to our eye care instruments. With the OCT machine, we have been able to diagnose the following conditions:
Macular holes
Holes in the eyes are invisible. However, the OCT machine has enabled us to detect macular holes in our patients’ eyes. A macular hole is usually a tear or opening that forms in the part of the eye called the macula.
Macular pucker
When wrinkles, bulges, and creases form on your macula, it is known as macular pucker. This is also another condition that we can diagnose using the OCT machine.
Macular edema
This condition is caused by the build-up of fluids on the macula resulting in swelling.
Macular degeneration
This is an issue related to the retina that cannot be identified with the naked eye. However, the OCT machine helps us detect this issue as well.
Glaucoma
When a patient has glaucoma, the optic nerve is damaged.
Diabetic retinopathy
