What Happens at a Pediatric Vision Exam?
When someone shows up for a vision exam, there are several processes that will unfold. First, the eye doctor is going to ask someone to read something called a Snellen chart with both eyes, then each eye separately. After this, the optometrist will check each visual field separately to look for gaps in someone’s vision. The optometrist will also use something that resembles a small pen to check the pressure behind each eye individually. This is done to ensure someone is not developing a serious eye disease called glaucoma. Finally, the optometrist will also dilate someone’s eyes. This will allow him or her to look at the optic nerves, blood vessels, and retinas for signs of issues. It is important for everyone to have this exam done annually.
