Astigmatism Contact Lenses

Astigmatism Contact Lenses

What Are Astigmatism Contact Lenses?

Astigmatism contact lenses are designed to correct vision problems caused by an irregularly shaped corneas. If you have astigmatism, your cornea is curved more in one direction than the other, which causes light to bend differently as it enters your eye. This can result in blurred or distorted vision.

Astigmatism contact lenses are made to counter this effect by bending light in the same way as your cornea so that it hits the back of your eye (the retina) in the right place, giving you clear and sharp vision. At Palmer Vision Clinic in Palmar, AK, we offer quality contact lenses to meet your needs.

What Kinds of Astigmatism Contact Lenses Are There?

There are two main types of astigmatism contact lenses:

1. Toric lenses – These have different powers in different parts of the lens to correct both nearsightedness and farsightedness.

2. Multifocal lenses – These have different powers in different parts of the lens to correct both nearsightedness and farsightedness. They also have an additional area in the center of the lens for clear distance vision.

If you wear glasses or contact lenses for astigmatism, you may find that your vision is not as clear as it could be. This is because traditional lenses only correct one type of astigmatism. However, there are now specially designed lenses that can correct both types of astigmatism. These are called “toric” lenses.

Toric lenses are made from a soft, flexible material that bends light in different ways depending on where it hits the lens. This means that they can correct both nearsightedness and farsightedness, giving you clear vision at all distances.

On the other hand, multifocal lenses are designed to correct both nearsightedness and farsightedness in people who also need reading glasses. They have two or more powers in different parts of the lens so that you can see clearly both up close and far away.

Choosing the Contacts Best for You

There are a few things you need to consider when choosing the right type of astigmatism contact lens. These include:

1. The severity of your astigmatism – If you have mild astigmatism, you may be able to wear regular contact lenses. However, if you have more severe astigmatism, you will need to wear special lenses.

2. Your age – If you are younger, you may be able to wear regular contact lenses. However, if you are older, you may need to wear bifocal or multifocal lenses.

3. Your lifestyle – If you lead an active lifestyle, you may want to consider lenses that will not fall out easily.

4. Your budget – Special lenses for astigmatism can be more expensive than regular lenses.
