About Vision Exams

When you visit our eye doctors for a routine checkup, part of the exam consists of a vision test. During this particular assessment, our eye doctors will ask you to sit down and look into a device with changeable lenses. You'll be asked to read different lines as our optometrists or ophthalmologist changes them. The one you see clearest helps them determine your prescription.

The other half of your vision exam is a test for astigmatism. This particular test consists of our optometrist or ophthalmologist asking you to look at images and compare them based on their clarity. After you go through a series of them, our doctors can determine if you have astigmatism.

Based on the results of your eye exam, we can determine the correct prescription to give you the sharpest vision.

About Eye Exams

Eye exams are the portion of your visit when our eye doctors examine your eyes to check for any eye-related health problems. A slit lamp test is a standard procedure where we use a lighted magnifying device to look into your eyes. This gives our practitioners a view of different parts of your internal portion of your eye, such as your cornea and lens. It can help assess for issues like cataracts. We may apply eye drops into your eyes to dilate them. Then, using a magnifying device, we will examine your retina and the rest of the back of your eye. This test can check for issues with your retina, such as detachment, macular degeneration, or diabetic retinopathy.

Our eye doctors will also perform an eye pressure evaluation, which is when we situate you in front of a machine that blows air into your eyes. It checks the pressure in your eyes, which can help us diagnose glaucoma.

Based on the results, our doctors may need to provide intervention, such as prescribing specialized eyewear or contact lenses.
