Behavioural Optometry

Behavioural Optometry is based on concepts of neuroscience and treats each patient as an individual in relation to their eye condition. This concept is not new or special -- it is how all patients should be treated.

Besides examining the "hardware" (e.g. eye health and the structural abnormalities), Behavioural Optometry aims to normalize higher-order visual functions (the "software") and attempts to address the individual's visual neurocognitive status. Indeed, vision is more than meets the eye and neuroplasticity underpins the basis in vision therapy.

Consultant Optometrists at IGARD adopt a neurocognitive approach to vision-care during their clinical practice. Senior Consultants are clinically trained in Behavioural Optometry and they are best known for their work on Vision Therapy and Neuro-Optometric Rehabilitation.
