eye exam in maple ridge bc

Our optometrists strive to stay current with the latest diagnostic tools and treatments in order to provide the best eye care possible. By staying current and utilizing the latest optometry technology, our optometrists in Maple Ridge are able to diagnose diseases at the earliest stages possible when they are most easily managed and treated.

Matrix (ZEISS) Visual Field (PERIPHERAL VISION) Testing

Matrix visual field testing utilizes frequency doubling technology, which studies have proven to detect early visual field loss. It is an excellent way to detect and monitor glaucoma and stroke as well as other neurological pathologies. The frequency doubling targets in the peripheral vision preferentially test for sensitivity loss in the magnocellular pathways in the visual system, which is often first damaged with glaucoma.

Digital Retina Images (CANON AUTORK CAMERA)

We recommend and perform digital retinal imaging on all our adult patients and perform this at no additional fee with every comprehensive examination. Digital retina images help identify disease and provide a point of reference for future comparison. During our examinations, highly detailed scans are taken of your retinas, digitally enhanced by a computer and displayed on a screen for easy magnification and viewing.

CORNEAL TOPOGRAPHY/MAPPING (TOPCON MYAH, TOMEY)

The clear tissue covering the front surface of the eye is the cornea. Our clinic is able to provide diagnostic imaging of the cornea when clinically indicated covering over 12,600 data points. A sudden change in prescription, disease processes such as keratoconus (corneal warping) rigid gas permeable and orthokeratology contact lens fittings, and Myopia Management are some cases where corneal topography may be performed.

AXIAL LENGTH MEASUREMENT (TOPCON MYAH)

For children with advancing myopia, measuring the growth rate of the eye is a vital component to determining the risk of rapid myopic progression. This advanced instrument utilizes non-contact optical biometry measurements which are quick and easy to obtain. They are accurate to 0.01mm. This advanced technology is available exclusively for children enrolled in our Myopia Management program.

ICARE TONOMETRY

Is a portable, hand-held patient friendly eye pressure measuring instrument. We may use this for those who are unable to perform the non-contact (puff) tonometry. Studies have demonstrated the value provided from this instrument are as accurate as the gold standard of Goldmann Tonometry and are used in glaucoma detection and management.

SLIT LAMP BIOMICROSCOPY (REICHERT INSTRUMENTS)

A slit lamp allows our optometrist to focus a thin beam of light into your eye. This is often performed after your eyes have been dilated. During this examination, the cornea, iris, retina and optical nerve are all visually examined for abnormalities.

MEIBOGRAPHY (TOPCON MYAH)

As dry eyes have become endemic in advanced economies due to aging populations and vastly increased digital eye strain, imaging of our lid’s oil (meibomian) glands is a vital component in identifying the cause of dry eye and in the treatment of the disease.  Our doctors will have you return for a dry eye work up including this infrared scan of your meibomian glands; treatment options will then be determined.

Ocular Coherence Tomography (IVUE OCT)

Ocular Coherence Tomography examinations involve interferometry scans of the retina (the film lining the back surface of the eye).  High frequency light rays (which are safe) are directed at the retina and the varied reflection of the light is measured to provide a cross sectional image of the tissue. This test is used to identify and monitor progression of macular degeneration, swelling or hemorrhaging secondary to diabetes and is one of the key diagnostic tests in glaucoma diagnosis and management.  OCT tests typically take about 5 to 10 minutes to perform.
