Optometrist Serving Maple Ridge and the Surrounding Areas

optometrist in maple ridge bcPlease note: If you are experiencing an eye emergency outside of our office hours, please contact your local emergency room or walk-in clinic, depending on the severity of your emergency.

If you have sustained an eye injury or are experiencing eye pain, our optometrist is qualified to evaluate this condition and make treatment recommendations. Emergency visits are available for the following conditions: infections; dry eye; redness; eye or vision-related injuries; and abrasions. We also diagnose and treat conditions related to sudden vision loss or blurred vision. Our eye doctors are also skilled at the removal of foreign bodies from the eye, eliminating the need for a visit to the emergency room at our local hospital.

Emergency Eye Services for a Vision Emergency

Are you experiencing an eye problem that requires emergency care? Any threat to your vision can be extremely upsetting, disorienting and frustrating.

If you experience the following, we recommend seeking immediate care:

  • black spots or flashes of light
  • sudden hazy or blurred vision
  • seeing halos or rainbows around light
  • curtain-like disappearance of vision
  • sudden vision loss in one eye

Awakening with red, crusty and swollen eyelids in the morning are signs of a potential bacterial infection that requires immediate treatment. While itchy, burning sensations or dry eyes are not signs of an immediate eye problem, you may also wish to schedule an appointment with our optometrist to better understand the cause for this pain.

If you experience a vision emergency, the first step is to not panic. While a sudden change in vision can be a very confusing experience, remaining calm is key. A sudden change or loss in vision does not mean that this condition is permanent. Depending on the cause, this vision disruption may be minor and can be corrected with proactive intervention. The first step is to immediately contact our Maple Ridge Eye Care team and let them know what you are experiencing. They will consult one of our eye doctors to determine how quickly you need to be seen. If your vision is compromised, do not attempt to drive. Have a friend or family member safely take you to our eye care practice.

Once you have arrived, our optometrist will evaluate your eyes to determine the cause for your vision emergency. If an infection is affecting your vision, they will prescribe medication to correct this problem. Should an emergency, in-office procedure be necessary due to a foreign body in the eye, we will immediately begin prepping you for the removal of the foreign body. Finally, if it is deemed that you need to be referred to an ophthalmologist (eye surgeon) for further treatment or assessment, our staff will handle your referral to get you seen as quickly as possible. Our goal is to treat your pain and correct your vision obstruction as quickly, seamlessly and effectively as possible.
