Signs Your Child Might Have A Vision Problem
Most kids won't readily complain about not being able to see properly. In fact, they are often too active to notice any changes in their vision until it has gotten to the point where it is considered to be severe. There are warning signs that you can look out for, however. Here at Maple Ridge Eye Care, we can help you spot those signs.
Squinting and Headaches
The first two signs that your child may be having vision problems is if they start to squint when reading a book or watching television. They might also start complaining of headaches around their eyes and back across their temples. Every so often, watch your child while they are studying. You can tell a lot about if they are having vision issues by how they look when they are reading or studying. Covering or rubbing their eyes, losing their place while reading or holding the book close to their face can also all be signs they’re having difficulty.
Sitting in the Front of the Class
Another potential indicator of poor eyesight is if your child's teacher has them sitting in the front of the class. Teachers will often notice children squinting or moving their head to get a better vantage point. Talk to your child's teacher and find out where your child sits in class. If it's in the front, you may want to bring them in for an eye exam.
Dropping Grades
When children have trouble reading, one of the first things to be affected is their grades. If your child suddenly has trouble with their homework or just aren't getting the grades they used to, have their eyes checked. It may solve their problem.
