Blue Light and its Effects on Health

Blue Light and its Effects on Health

At Maple Ridge Eye Care, we strive to provide comprehensive vision health and eye care. That's why we want to take a few minutes of your time to educate you on an important eye health danger: blue light. Learn what blue light is and how it can negatively affect your health.

Why is Blue Light Damaging?

Blue light is a special wavelength of light that can cause eye damage and negatively impact your eye health. Blue is the highest wavelength energy of visible light, and it is uniquely able to penetrate the whole eye, all the way back, bypassing the natural filters of the eye. Sources of blue light include computers, television, fluorescent lights, tablets, and smartphones.

Blue light puts your eyes under strain with side effects of fatigue, headaches, and achy eyes. While you may not notice this until the end of a long day, over time the negative health consequences of blue light can cause health problems.

Children are at risk of blue light damage too, especially in this day and age where everyone is plugged into a digital device.

Thankfully, our optometrists in Maple Ridge and Pitt Meadows can help combat blue light damage.

How Our Maple Ridge Eye Doctor Can Help

At Maple Ridge Eye Care we stock Hoya Recharge lenses, which are a special type of lens that filters blue light. We can fit you with these lenses so that you can enjoy protection from the harmful effects of blue light simply by wearing glasses that help you see clearly. By wearing the glasses, you will filter out blue light and enjoy increased eye comfort during the day. Physical symptoms of eye strain will decrease.

We can provide you with blue light filtering lenses whether or not you wear prescription glasses.

Our eye doctors can help you with blue light damage by fitting you with blue light filtering lenses that block blue light before it can damage your eyes. To learn more, or to get fit for a pair of these lenses, call us today at 604-463-4469.
