Use Caution When Buying Contacts for Halloween Costumes

Halloween contacts, Maple Ridge optometrist In your vigor to build the best Halloween costume, you may run across contacts that sell your monster even better. Cosmetic contacts can look fun, but take caution. For your health, there are some things that you definitely need to consider before putting those cosmetic contacts in your eyes.

See Your Local Eye Doctor Before Committing to a Certain Type of Cosmetic Contact Lenses

First of all, you must be sure that your eyes do not have any small cuts or abrasions that could cause infection when covered by a contact lens. You may also have allergic reactions to certain types of contact lenses, and your eye doctor is the only one who will be able to find these problems ahead of time. If your eyes are incompatible with a lens, you may experience decreased vision, itchy or red eyes, new cuts in your eye and even blindness in some of the worst case scenarios. This is especially important to do if you do not wear contacts in your day to day life!

Get a Prescription

You may not think that you need a prescription for cosmetic contact lenses; however, this is the way to avoid all of the problems mentioned above!

Follow All Directions for Disinfecting, Cleaning, Wearing and Removing Your Contact Lenses!

Believe it or not, you can put a contact lens on backwards. You may also introduce dirt and grime from your fingernails into your eye as you insert the contact lens if you are not careful. Pay attention to the directions on the contact lenses when it comes to cleaning and inserting them. Certain brands of contact lens require a disinfectant solution; others may not.

Your optometrist will also be able to give you a short tutorial on inserting and removing contact lenses safely. Ask if you have never done it before!

When you are ready for your cosmetic contact lenses, be sure to visit your optometrist serving Maple Ridge and Pitt Meadows - Maple Ridge Eye Care. We look forward to making this Halloween a safe and fun excursion!
