Did you recently get a new smartphone and are wondering what to do with the old one? Don’t just recycle your old phone. Donate it! We are proud supporters of the Phone it Forward program, an innovative initiative operated by the CNIB Foundation. Many people don’t realize the tremendous impact modern smartphones can have in the lives of individuals who are blind. Smartphone apps make it possible for people who are blind or visually impaired do all kinds of things that may have seemed challenging before. It can help someone identify prescriptions and take medication safely, read books and recognize the faces of loved ones, travel safely alone using GPS and hundreds of other daily tasks most of us take for granted.
Through the Phone it Forward program, CNIB will happily accept a used smartphone, which is then wiped and refurbished with accessible apps and given to a person with sight loss who needs it. CNIB will also give the recipient one-on-one training on how to use the donated phone. We encourage you to donate your used smartphone to this worthwhile program. You will also receive a charitable tax receipt for the fair market value of your old device. We believe this is an amazing program and are a participating location where a donation envelope with pre-paid shipping can be picked up for free. For more information about this program visit www.phoneitforward.ca or our own website at www.mapleridgeeyecare.ca. We hope to see you visiting us for a donation envelope soon!
CNIB continues to be a charitable organization we wholeheartedly support. In November our clinic donated $750 to their Career and Employment Program in BC, which works toward skills building, unemployment, underemployment and internship programs for individuals with sight loss.
