Medical Botox

Blepharospasm is a chronic and persistent condition in which the muscles around both eyes involuntarily contract causing the eyelids to close. This results in the patient being unable to see as the eyelids spasm shut. Botox can help relax these muscles and allows the patient to be able to keep the eyes open. The treatment is customized to the patient.

We work with patients to obtain authorizations to perform medical botox. Treatments typically last three to four months. Some patients may be able to go longer between treatments and some patients may feel the need to return sooner. Dr. Parbhu also performs surgical myectomy for certain cases of blepharospasm. This procedure can decrease the amount of botox injected or increase the intervals between botox treatments but typically does not eliminate the need for botox.

Hemifacial spasm is a chronic and persistent condition in which there is irregular and involuntary contraction of the muscles on one half of the face. It can occur due to facial nerve nerve injury, tumor, or more commonly due to no apparent cause. Imaging is typically performed to rule out a cause for it.

Dr. Parbhu customizes a botox treatment plan to help relax the muscles that are spasming. Treatments typically last three to four months. Some patients may be able to go longer between treatments and some patients may feel the need to return sooner.

Tarsorrhaphy is procedure that is performed to protect the cornea is cases of exposure due to inadequate lid coverage or severe non- healing ulceration. A chemical tarsorrhaphy can be performed using botox in the upper lid to induce a ptosis that is temporary. A surgical tarsorrhaphy can be temporary or permanent and involves fusing the upper and lower eyelids. The extent of the fusion is dependent on the degree of coverage needed. Dr. Parbhu works with referring physicians to determine the best option for the patient.
