What You Can Expect From Microneedling
Microneedling involves the use of a tool with fine needles that is moved over the skin on your face. The needles make microscopic cuts in your skin and encourage the body to build new stores of collagen that plump up fine lines on the face and reduce the appearance of acne scars. At Parbhu Oculofacial in Windermere, FL, our eye doctor is trained in micro-needling techniques and can help your skin look great again.
The Microneedling Experience
The idea of having a tool with tiny needles used on your face may make you go, "ouch!" The truth is, micro-needling causes very little pain or discomfort and a numbing cream can be applied before the treatment to further reduce the sensation. Once you are prepared for the procedure, our eye doctor will apply the tool to your face in the area that you would like to be treated. The tool is applied lightly and the application is brief. You might spend anywhere from thirty minutes to an hour in the chair for a session, but rarely longer than that.
How the Skin Reacts to Microneedling
As previously mentioned, fine needles cut the skin, but only penetrate to a maximum depth of 2mm for acne scars and 1mm for wrinkles. The skin is cut, but the cuts are so fine that the risk of bleeding is minimal. It also has little to no downtime, which means you can resume your daily routine after a session. The only signs that you will see are slight redness and irritation on your face for a few days after the procedure.
The purpose of the needles is to injure the skin and stimulate the body to produce fresh stores of collagen and tissues. The new tissue growth is more even in tone, has improved texture, and sometimes feels firmer. Collagen loss is reversed by micro needling and a fresh appearance is restored to the skin.
