Droopy Eyelids Removal

Droopy Eyelid Removal

The condition ptosis is better known as a droopy eyelid, and it occurs when the eyelid partially droops to obscure the pupil of the eye. Droopy eyelids are not uncommon with aging and can also be a side effect of cataract surgery or caused by injury, diabetes, or a tumor; although, some cases are barely noticeable. For instances of ptosis that are extreme, there are a couple of options for droopy eyelid removal. Our staff at Parbhu Oculofacial Plastic Surgery wants you to know how we can treat droopy eyelids.

People who have more extreme droopy eyelids may have to tilt their head back or look "through" the eyelid to see. Sometimes patients develop a habit of lifting their eyebrows in an attempt to lift their eyelids as well. Droopy eyelids in children can prevent proper vision from developing.

To correct droopy eyelids, a surgeon will perform plastic surgery known as blepharoplasty to tighten the levator muscles that lift the eyelid. This prevents the lid from drooping. Muscle, fat, and other tissue that contribute to drooping may also be removed. While this method works for many people, it may not work for all. An alternative is to attach the eyelid under the eyebrow to prevent the appearance of drooping.

Patents can go home the same day, and recovery is relatively easy as long as patients rest their eyes for a few days following their eyelid surgery. This includes wearing eyeglasses rather than contacts. Swelling and pain are common side effects that fade within two weeks. Furthermore, some patients experience temporarily blurred vision or sensitivity to light that.

In some cases, a patient may no longer be able to move their eyelid after surgery, which can cause the eye to become dry. There's also the chance of uneven eyelids. However, many people feel this risk is worth it because of the way a droopy eyelid can interfere with their vision.

Carefully choosing a surgeon can reduce the likelihood of unwanted side effects from droopy eye surgery. Parbhu Oculofacial in Windermere can provide safe and effective eyelid surgery.
