Westbury was established in 1932 as a village in Nassau County. It is located about 18 miles east of Manhattan. In 1658 first settlers came to the region which was then known as the Hempstead Plains. Many of the early settlers were Quakers.
Westbury's Jericho Turnpike, which provides connection to Mineola and Syosset as well as to the Long Island Expressway (or LIE), was once a trail used by the Massapequa Indians.

Westbury became widely diverse and cosmopolitan when many people of Irish, Italian and Polish roots began to settle from the 1850s to 1900s.
