The village of Franklin Square is a census-designated place (CDP) in Nassau County, New York. Franklin Square is an unincorporated area within Hempstead. Initially, Franklin Square was near the middle of the Hempstead Plains, and utilized as grazing land, and then farmland, through the first white settlers. The southern portion incorporated oak and dogwood forests. Franklin Square is a portion of the Town of Hempstead which is symbolized by 3rd District Council Member, Councilman Bruce Blakeman.

Franklin Square was home of the Franklin National Bank, once the 20th largest bank in the United States. Lead by Arthur T. Roth; the Franklin National Bank introduced many banking innovations, such as the bank credit card, junior savings accounts (1947), the drive-up teller window (1950), plus a no-smoking policy on banking floors. The building of the Franklin Square National Bank was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2015. Two public libraries, the Elmont Public Library and the Franklin Square Public Library, are located in Franklin Square.
