Incorporated on June 24, 1931, the Village of East Hills is a part of both North Hempstead and Town of Oyster Bay. Most of the village is in North Hempstead. As of 2010, it had a population of 6,955.
On the day of incorporation, all of the 269 people living in the village, came together in the house of Robert H. Willets. The Willets family had been in the area for eight generations.
However, the region has been a part of US history since 1643 when Robert Fordham and John Carman sailed across Long Island Sound from Stamford, Connecticut and bought the towns of Hempstead and North Hempstead from the Rockaway, Mericock, Marsappeaque and Matinecock Indians.

The famous George Washington Manor which is mentioned in George Washingon's diary is also in Greenvale. However, the restaurant has now been replaced by Hendricks.
