OPTOS
Your retina( located in the back of your eye ) is the only place in the body where blood vessels can be seen directly. This means that in addition to eye conditions, signs of other diseases such as diabetes and high blood pressure can also be seen in the retina.
Early signs of these conditions can show on your retina long before you notice any changes in your vision or feel pain. A thorough screening of the retina is critical to verify that your eyes are healthy.
OptoMap
The Optomap retinal exam is fast, painless and comfortable. It is suitable for the entire family . To have the exam, you simply look into the device one eye at a time(like looking through a keyhole) and you will see a comfortable flash of light to let you know the image of your retina has been taken.
Under normal circumstances , dilation drops might not be necessary , but your eye care practitioner will decide if your pupils need to be dilated depending on your conditions. The capture takes less that a second. Images are available immediately for review. You can see your own retina. You see exactly what your eye doctor sees- even in a 3D animation!
AUTO REFRACTOR
This device is used as part of our routine eye examination. The instrument emits an invisible light beam through the eye and takes internal ocular measurements that allow a prediction of the eye prescription and curve of the eye.
This is especially useful in young children, the speech and hearing impaired, and patients developing significant cataracts. After measurements are taken, the Dr. uses the gathered information to further fine tune and complete the examination.
HUMPHREY VISUAL FIELD ANALYZER
This instrument is used to determine the sensitivity of vision in various areas of the vision field. The internal computer knows how dim of a light an individual should be able to detect at each point in the field and is calibrated for every age.
The most common use of the instrument is for glaucoma suspects and people being treated for glaucoma. It is also used to map out vision loss due to neurological conditions such as stroke and brain tumors.
OCUTOUCH EDUCATION SOFTWARE
This program is dynamite! It contains highly graphic pictures that can be used to explain almost every condition and disease of the eye to our patients. It also can allow you to see how various lenses work under a variety of environmental conditions. For example, driving at night and looking at headlights through regular lenses as compared to anti-reflective lenses. Our patients love this program!
PACHYMETER
This device is used to measure the thickness of the cornea. This is used in the evaluation of laser surgery candidates and also in glaucoma evaluation. It has been recently discovered that the central corneal thickness affects the eye pressure reading. If the thickness is unusually thick or thin, the eye pressure reading is adjusted for this. This extra piece of data has been very helpful in doing a thorough glaucoma evaluation.
