Before you entrust us with your eyecare, we understand that it’s important to get to know us a little bit first. We are happy to introduce ourselves. Erie Optical was opened in 1963 in Painesville, Ohio by Dr. Jacob Waldman.

Dr. Robert Waldman is the owner and the optometrist of Erie Optical. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology from The Ohio State University in 1974, and then attended the New England College of Optometry and graduated in 1978. He then began working at Erie Optical alongside his father. Now seeing his third generation of patients, many long-term and satisfying relationships have been established. Outside of work he has a passion for biking, golf, and the Cleveland Indians. He lives in Mentor with his wife Caren.

Dr. Waldman is supported by a six-person superstar team which is dedicated to providing the highest level of care and service. We have one overriding philosophy which is to treat every patient in the same manner in which we ourselves would want to be treated. From the time you call for an appointment until you leave our office, we want you to feel fully satisfied with the entire office experience.

About the Practice

Erie Optical was founded in 1962 In Painesville, Ohio by Dr. Jacob Waldman. Previous to opening in Painesville, Dr.Waldman had a practice in the city of Cleveland. He was very progressive in his thinking as he was one of the first doctors to advertise his services in the newspaper. In 1978 his son Robert joined the practice and worked alongside his father until his retirement in 1984.The practice was moved to its present location in Mentor in 1988.

The practice philosophy has always been to provide excellent value and service in a friendly and comfortable environment.
