What to Expect During a Contact Lens Fitting

Many people find that contact lenses are a great option over wearing traditional glasses. Making an appointment at Erie Optical to meet with our optometrist is the first step necessary to obtain contact lenses. Here is some information about contact lenses to read over so you better understand their benefits and what will happen when you schedule a fitting with our practitioner.

The Benefits of Contact Lenses

Contact lenses provide wearers with a crisp view of their surroundings. Unlike glasses, contact lenses cover the entire eye, allowing users to see without blurred vision even when looking to the side, up, or down. People who engage in sports or exercise sessions prefer contact lenses over glasses as there is no need to worry about breaking corrective lenses during high activity. Contact lenses also allow your face to be seen in full without any obstructions.

The Difference between an Eye Exam and Contact Lens Exam

The process of having an exam for glasses or contact lenses is basically the same. You will be asked to read a letter or number chart to determine your current prescription strength. You will then be asked to look into some corrective lens glass pieces to sharpen the view. Our optometrist will check the health of your eye with the conducting of a few tests. You will also need to look at a few bright lights so the back of your eye can be assessed. If you are getting contact lenses, you will need to have a fitting process conducted.

What to Expect During a Contact Lens Fitting

The fitting portion of your appointment is quick and easy. You will need to look into an eyepiece that resembles a pair of binoculars and keep your eyes open. Try to refrain from blinking. Our optometrist will look at the other end of the eyepiece and measure the circumferences of your irises.

  • ""I have been going to Erie Optical for 3 years now. My sister referred me to Dr. Waldman after her great experience with him and the office. We had a previous eye doctor and the experience was not good and they charged so much. So when I went to Erie Optical I was so pleased with the office and Dr. Waldman's expertise and thoroughness. I ended up referring my parents and grandmother to Erie Optical too. I will never going anywhere else!!!""
