Amniotic Membranes

Amniotic Membrane Procedures at Overlake EyeCare in Bellevue, WA

Amniotic membrane is the innermost layer of the placenta. Amniotic membrane transplantation has been used as a graft or as a dressing in different surgical subspecialties. In the field of eyecare, this tissue has been used as a tissue bandage for cornea disease including dry eye management.

Live, healthy mothers may be considered eligible for placental donor status following elective Cesarean Section delivery. These mothers provide full informed consent and are put through extensive social habit screening, medical history and records review for infectious, malignant, neurological, auto-immune, transmissible diseases, and independent, serological CLIA lab testing (using FDA licensed test kits).

Dr. Harry Boparai has extensive experience and success using amniotic membranes to treat ocular surface disease. In October 2015 he presented a lecture on the use of amniotic membranes to his colleagues in Washington State at the OPW meeting. In November 2017 he was invited to lecture on ocular surface disease and amniotic membranes in New York City and in November 2019 Dr. Boparai lectured to a large group of colleagues in Bellevue WA on the use of amniotic membranes.

According to amniotic membrane suppliers, Dr. Boparai has performed more amniotic membrane procedures than any other optometrist or ophthalmologist in Washington State. For more information about amniotic membranes contact Overlake EyeCare in Bellevue, WA at (425) 643-2020.
