Birmingham Contact Lens Exams
Our optometrist in Birmingham, Dr. John Keriotis, offers contact lens evaluations at Clearview Family EyeCare. Dr. Keriotis is dedicated to helping you see as clear as possible even if you need hard-to-fit or specialty contact lenses. If you cannot tolerate standard daytime contact lenses due to dry eyes or you are afraid of LASIK surgery, our Vestavia eye doctor can recommend Corneal Reshaping (orthokeratology) lenses. These special lenses correct your vision while you sleep and are worn only at night. They are removed in the morning allowing you clear daytime vision without daytime contacts or eyeglasses.
What to Expect at ClearView Family EyeCare
Contact lens evaluations are more involved than eyeglass exams because additional tests, measurements and analysis needs to be performed. During your evaluation, Dr. Keriotis will determine the shape and size of the eye, the quality and sufficiency of your tears, the position of the eyelids and the ability of the eye to tolerate contact lenses over time.
Diagnostic lenses are chosen and may be evaluated over one or several visits to evaluate the fit of the lenses, eye physiology, solution complications, and wear compliance. The final prescription for contact lenses is determined only after the necessary follow-up evaluations are completed. These tests must be performed annually to insure the health of your eyes.
Regular and Specialty Contact Lenses in Birmingham
At Clearview Family EyeCare in Birmingham, we offer rigid, soft and specialty contact lenses. Soft contacts are the most popular because they require very little to no adjustment period. Rigid contacts can provide clearer vision for some people, and with newer fitting methods are just as comfortable as soft lenses.
Specialty contact lenses are generally designed to provide correction for individuals who are hard-to-fit or have unique eye conditions. One of our most popular specialty lenses is our MoistureEyes Scleral Lenses with MoistureLoc design. These lenses are a great option for those with irregular corneas and those with very dry eyes. MoistureEyes Scleral Lenses are made out of more rigid materials and are designed to vault over the cornea. They rest on the white part of the eye instead of the cornea creating a moisture reservoir. This makes them a good option for individuals with dry eye syndrome, keratoconus and Sjogren's syndrome. MoistureEyes Scleral Lenses can even be used by individuals who have had complications with their LASIK procedure, including over and under-corrections.
