The Importance of an Annual Eye Exam

Even if you haven't noticed any changes in your eye or vision health in the past year, annual eye exams are an important way to staying on top of your ocular health. After all, not all eye conditions and diseases have obvious symptoms at first; by having a comprehensive exam, our optometrist can take a close look at your eyes and be on the lookout for potential signs of problems that you may otherwise not know about. This, in turn, can allow us to diagnose problems sooner and have a better chance of treating or managing them successfully.

If it does turn out that you have an eye condition or disease, our optometrist can discuss your treatment options with you, such as orthokeratology or vision therapy, which may help you moving forward.

By receiving your annual eye exam, it ensures that you have an up-to-date prescription for any corrective lenses you may need in order to see clearly.

What to Expect During Your Eye and Vision Exam

When you come into Visionary Eye Care for your annual eye exam, we'll test and screen for a number of items. To begin, we'll check for refractive errors that could affect your visual acuity. This will include, for example, testing for near- and far-sightedness and astigmatism. We can provide a prescription for any glasses or lenses you may need to correct these types of refractive errors, if necessary.

We'll also test your overall eye function, which includes important aspects such as your color vision, tracking ability, peripheral vision, and depth perception. In addition, we'll conduct screenings and tests for symptoms of common eye diseases and conditions, such as cataracts and glaucoma. The sooner we're able to detect these, the sooner we can begin treatment with options like Ortho-K and vision therapy.

During your eye exam, we strongly encourage you to bring up any troublesome symptoms or problems you may have noticed so that our optometrist can address them and work to determine their specific cause during your appointment.
