The Importance of a Contact Lens Exam

Why do we recommend a contact lens exam for any patient thinking about switching to contacts? To begin, a contact lens exam allows us to conduct a thorough assessment not only of your vision, but of the physical attributes of your eyes as well. After all, not everybody's eyes are perfectly shaped to wear "traditional" contact lenses comfortably. Many people have eye conditions, such as astigmatism (irregular curvature of the eye lens) that require specialty contact lenses in order to achieve a proper fit. A contact lens exam will help us determine the contact lens type and brand that is best for your unique eye characteristics and lifestyle.

We also offer a wide range of specialty lenses in our office, which makes it easy to assist you in finding the right lens type for just about any condition you may face, including:

  • Dry eyes
  • Refractive error
  • Astigmatism
  • Other hard-to-fit contacts

What to Expect From your Exam With Our Lutz Optometrist

A contact lens exam with your optometrist isn't much different from an annual eye and vision exam. The exam itself will include an evaluation of your visual acuity and other aspects of your sight, including peripheral vision and depth perception. The exam will also include a physical examination of the structures of the eye to ensure everything looks healthy and that you are a good fit for contacts. At the end of your exam, we can review our findings and provide you with some recommendations on specific contact lenses that we believe will result in the most comfortable wear for you.

Our optometry team is also happy to provide you with instructions on how to insert, remove, and properly care for your contact lenses so as to avoid potential complications, such as eye irritation or even eye infection. Ultimately, our goal is to help you choose the right contact lens for your needs and ensure that you're as comfortable as possible in making the transition. We're here to answer any questions you may have along the way.
