Dr. Huisman was born and raised in Pella, Iowa. He attended Pella High School and graduated with honors from Wartburg College in Waverly, Iowa. In 2001, Dr. Huisman was awarded his Doctor of Optometry degree from the Illinois College of Optometry in Chicago. During his training at ICO, Dr. Huisman received Clinical Honors while completing internships at the Grand Rapids, MI, Veteran’s Hospital, the Chicago Cornea Consultants, St. James Olympia Fields Hospital, IL, and the Pediatric Services at Illinois Eye Institute and University of Chicago Clinics. Dr. Huisman also received the Biocompatibles Award for Innovative Research in Contact Lenses.

Dr. Heidi Bell, OD, FAAO, FCOVD grew up on a farm in Grand Junction, Iowa. She is a proud Cyclone, graduating with honors from Iowa State University. In 2012, Dr. Bell completed her Doctorate of Optometry from Southern College of Optometry in Memphis, TN, graduating Cum Laude. She received Clinical Honors and was the recipient of the 2012 Alcon Case Report Award while completing her rotations at Advanced Eye Care in Omaha, NE, the Santa Fe Indian Hospital in Santa Fe, NM and The Eye Center at SCO in Memphis, TN. During her time at SCO, she received an award for clinical excellence during her 3rd year and the Outstanding Clinician Award upon graduation.

Dr. Kelsi Sawatzky is from Ankeny, Iowa. She completed her undergraduate degree at Wartburg College, where she also competed on the women’s golf team. In 2017, Dr. Sawatzky graduated with honors from Indiana University School of Optometry in Bloomington Indiana. During her fourth year at IUSO she completed internships at Gundersen Eye Clinic in Decorah, IA, Truhlsen Eye Institute in Omaha, NE and Jesse Brown VA hospital in Chicago, IL. At her rotations, she gained invaluable experience with ocular disease, dry eye, specialty contact lenses and pediatric eye care.
