Anxiety is the most common disorder in America, according to the Anxiety Disorders Association of America, affecting over 40 million adults and costing more than $42 billion a year. Anxiety is used to describe several disorders that have similar symptoms including, nervousness, worry, and fear. The end result of this at it’s worst, can be death. Suicides are growing at a rapid rate in America and I believe the reason is that pharmaceutical drugs, the main form of treatment is ineffective and leads to worsening anxiety and depression in many cases.

Forms of anxiety are diverse. Generalized Anxiety Disorder is characterized by persistent and excessive worry about everyday things even when there is no apparent reason.

  • Panic Disorder is characterized by sudden attacks of apprehension, feelings of terror, and can cause shaking, palpitations and difficult breathing.
  • Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder is characterized by unwanted thoughts that make the sufferer repeat certain behaviors.

Acupuncture Treatment for Anxiety

Acupuncture can help restore normal function. Anxiety of any origin is viewed as an imbalance within the brain chemistry. Acupuncture disrupts the neurological loops and resets the brain through its messages into the hypothalamus, pituitary and adrenals affecting all major survival systems and restoring physiological homeostasis. Within minutes anxiety is transformed and a sense of peace and tranquility takes over. Acupuncture first affects the cognitive and emotional functions within the brain. Initially a person experiences relief. Sleep can be restored to normal within a few treatments due to acupunctures affects on the brain chemistry. Restoration of normal function takes place over a period of time which we determine almost immediately during the first few visits based on the persons response to the acupuncture treatments.

Most people over time are able to reduce or eliminate medications once they reach physiological healing.
