Tooth Whitening

Almost everyone would like whiter teeth. And it may be easier than you think! It isn’t very expensive, or is it very complicated.

Tooth Whitening Procedure

You should start with a regular exam, to make sure you have no leaky fillings or problems with your teeth that could be irritated by the tooth whitening procedure. This can just be your regular checkup.

After that, Dr. Kernstock's health care team will take some impressions of your teeth and make some clear trays for you to wear. We give you some professional whitening gel and some instructions, and you’re on your way!

Many people find over-the-counter tooth whitening products very attractive. However, these whiteners are much weaker, and you probably would end up spending a lot more money for the same results. Check with us first. Also, over-the-counter products can get you in trouble if there are certain conditions in your mouth that could be aggravated by whitening. And, some over-the-counter products only make your teeth temporarily whiter, and cause them to actually stain more easily over the long term. So beware.

How Tooth Whitening Works

The bleaching gel has peroxide in it, and it is formulated so that it actually penetrates the tooth. This is an important part of the process. There needs to be at least twenty minutes of contact for the peroxide to penetrate, or there is no permanent whitening effect.

Whitening can remove even deeply embedded stains.

Tooth Whitening Options

There are two basic professional methods, and we offer both in our office. There is the take-home tray method. This is the least expensive and the most popular, because you can do most of the work yourself at home, and you can continue bleaching until your teeth are the whiteness you want.

The other method is one-hour whitening, which we do in the office. This method is quicker, giving results after only one appointment. But, since it requires more office time, it is more expensive.
