Gum Pain

Gum Pain

Dr. Kernstock and his team understand the pain associated with the symptoms listed below.  Gum disease may present with no symptoms as the chronic condition escalates. Also called periodontal disease, gum disease is s serious but often silent condition that can jeopardize your oral and whole-body health.

You may have gum disease if:

Your gums bleed when you brush and floss.

You notice white pus at the gum line or a foul smell that does not go away.

Your gums are painful when touched.

Your gums are red and swollen.

Any teeth feel loose.

Your gums are receding, and you notice sensitivity on your teeth at the gum line.

What starts as mild gingivitis with few or no symptoms can escalate to advanced periodontitis, in which teeth, gums, and bone tissue become badly infected. Gum disease at all levels is a serious oral health problem that afflicts half or more of the adults in America. It begins with bacteria at the gum line destroy connective bonds that hold the gums to teeth. As a result, periodontal pockets of infection develop, and bacteria reproduce rapidly. The bacterial infection spreads down the roots of teeth, ultimately causing tooth loss.

If you are experiencing any of these symptoms or would like additional information, please give our practice a call or submit the appointment form below.  Dr Kernstock and his team welcome the opportunity to help before it hurts.
