Corrective Lenses

Corrective lenses can correct a variety of vision defects. It can be a less expensive method, as well as a non-invasive one, when compared to laser eye surgery. For some people, it can help them retain as much of their vision as possible for as long as possible if they suffer from certain eye diseases. Let our Spring, TX, optometrist, Dr. Amalia, on our optometry team at the Vision Learning Center of Champions discuss everything you may need to know about corrective lenses with you. Our eye doctor is here to help.

Corrective Lenses

General Information

Corrective lenses work to treat myopia, presbyopia, hyperopia, astigmatism, and so on. With myopia, hyperopia, and astigmatism that eye isn't shaped as it should be. For instance, with astigmatism, a part of the eye may be shaped more like a football than a round eyeball. With the other conditions, the abnormal shape of the eye leads to the light not shining on the retina properly.

Types of Corrective Lenses

There are a variety of corrective lens types to correct your vision. The kind you need is based on your condition as well as the severity of it. For instance, if you have astigmatism, standard soft contact lenses may be enough. However, in the more serious cases, you may need contacts especially for astigmatism. They have a unique shape, stay in your eye better, and can optimize your vision at different levels. In the more serious cases, you could benefit from Ortho-K lenses, which are ones you sleep in at night. During this time, the lenses remain in your eyes and correct the shape as you sleep. When you rise, you take them out and can have correct vision for a day or two.

Rigid gas permeable contact lenses are another option the our eye doctor can help provide. These are more durable than soft contacts. They can remain in your eyes all day to provide vision correction but can often do so better than a standard pair of soft contacts.

Our optometrist can also provide you with contacts especially for dry eye, which cause less discomfort than regular contacts because they all more air to pass through. We can also help provid eye glasses and contacts that can correct vision as well as help with digital eye strain.
