Eye Exam

If you have never had an eye exam before, it can be a little nerve-racking to show up not knowing what to expect. Fortunately, eye exams are some of the safest and least invasive medical procedures in the world. A typical exam will not involve any sots or pain, and in many cases can even be done without ever even having the eye doctor touch you. We at The Vision Learning Center for Champions serving Spring, TX, and Houston, TX, know a lot about eye care, eye health, pediatric eye care, and more. Our Dr. Amalia Davis can help children with vision therapy.

How an Eye Exam Works

A typical eye exam, whether for adults or a pediatric eye care exam (for children), starts by taking a few measurements of your eyes. This is done with special machines that use lasers to take the measurements; nothing will ever touch your eye. For very small children, our equipment can let the eye doctor see everything she needs to diagnose early vision problems and start an eye care plan.

After measurements have been taken, the doctor will ask you about your eye health history. If she believes that you may need glasses, she will start a manual eye exam. This is the part of the exam that most people are most familiar with; it generally involves reading letters off a chart. If you or your child is not familiar enough with the English alphabet, don't worry. There are alternate exams that have pictures that are just as good at diagnosing eye issues.

Our eye doctor will then talk with you about you or your child's overall eye health. She may talk about lifestyle changes that can prevent future vision problems.
