Can Myopia be Controlled

In most cases, Myopia control is possible with a few specific and individualized eye care recommendations. Thousands upon thousands of people across the globe have a diagnosis for Myopia. People with this condition find that light rays focus on the front of their retina instead of the surface of the retina. Many have heard of being short-sighted or nearsighted and have an inability for the eye to focus correctly.

This condition of Myopia prevents the person from clearly visualizing images at a distance. The person may have to squint their eyes to try to bring distant images into clarity. This condition poses no risk of eye health and is said to be a pesky and irritating eye condition. In rare instances, Myopia can present itself as a severe case, thus progressive and degenerative leading to legal blindness. Remember that these cases are rare.

Those with Myopia need to take the recommendations of their eye care specialist such as Dr. Ivan Bank, Dr. Tracy Stringfield, Dr. James Williams, and Dr. Lindsey Bank at Insight Complete Eyecare. Their recommendations could include some following possibilities to help control your diagnosis of Myopia. Come see us and let us examine your eyes, so we can tell you what you need to do for your Myopia.

  • Routine eye exams and when symptoms become worse
  • Wear prescribed eyeglasses or contact lenses every day
  • Consider high-index lenses, photochromic lenses, anti-reflective coating lenses
  • Refractive surgery as recommended
  • Possible rigid gas-permeable contact lenses at night while sleeping to reshape the cornea
  • Implantable lenses

Fitting children with bifocals, gas-permeable or progressive lenses show results are a mixture of pros and cons, every person is different. We may recommend a possible low-dose atropine eye drop to slow the progression of Myopia in the younger school-age child. We may recommend a duo-focus disposable contact lens worn daily if the child is eight to twelve years of age.
