In general, you can expect your eyes to feel better within a few days, though full recovery will typically take three to six weeks. On the day of your surgery, it is best to arrange for someone to drive you to and from your appointment. You'll likely need someone to assist you for the first few days as well, though some patients report feeling capable of driving within a week.

It is a good idea to allow yourself at least a day or two for complete rest and relaxation, so try to arrange your surgery right before the weekend or during a period when you can take time off work. Start using your prescribed eye drops right away, and continue using them for the duration of your recovery, even if your eyes are feeling better.

Throughout the Rest of Your Glaucoma Surgery Recovery

Even though your eyes may be feeling better after a few days, you'll need at least a month for full recovery. During this time, avoid any strenuous activity, like exercise and heavy lifting. These activities can increase your heart rate, which in turn, increases your blood pressure. This added pressure can put too much strain on the tiny blood vessels in your eyes in their already-weakened state, so do your best to take it easy.

You should also try to avoid rubbing or scratching your eyes, no matter how tempting it might be. Stay away from swimming pools, hot tubs, and saunas as well, as these can be prime breeding grounds for bacteria, which could lead to infection.
