What about laser surgery to correct my vision?

Laser vision correction is available for both nearsighted and farsighted patients. The surgery is performed by Dr. Andrew Holzman and working in conjunction with us for pre and post care. Our practice can provide more information regarding the benefits and risks associated with laser vision correction. Dr. Bunder has helped many of our patients see great without glasses.

Will I still need glasses if I wear contact lenses?

Contact lenses may be worn most of the day and some may even sleep in some. Although you have the convenience of not needing your glasses to see, a pair of glasses should be available for times when you may not feel like wearing your lenses. Other reasons for having a pair of glasses are if you tear a lens, seasonal allergies that may affect your ability to wear your lenses or if you are traveling and lose a lens. Glasses are also a fashion accessory.

What are disposable lenses and what are the benefits?

Disposable contact lenses are soft contact lenses that are replaced frequently. The recommended wearing time will be determined by the manufacturer and your eye care professional. The benefit of replacing contact lenses on a frequent basis is to prevent discomfort, dryness, blurred vision and allergic reactions that can result from a buildup of protein and lipid deposits on the lenses. Our practice can provide the options and help you in choosing the appropriate frequency for you.

Do colored contact lenses really change eye color?

Colored contact lenses are available in various colors and shades. There are lenses available to enhance a light eye and lenses that will change a brown eye to blue, green, violet, hazel and many other colors. They work and they are fun.

I need reading glasses or a bifocal. Are there bifocal contact lenses available?

Special bifocal contact lenses are available in both soft and hard lenses. Several manufacturers have recently introduced disposable bifocal contact lenses. As an alternative, your eye care professional may choose to fit you with a system called monovision whereby one eye is fit with a distant lens and the other with a reading lens.

I have astigmatism, am I a candidate for contact lenses?

Lenses that correct astigmatism are available in both soft and hard lenses and are now available in a disposable wearing schedule.

Can I play sports with my contact lenses on?

Contact lenses are a great option for vision correction when playing sports. Contact lenses are stable and do not interfere with your game.

Is it difficult to care for your contact lenses when removing them?

There are many choices available in lens cleaning and disinfecting. A popular choice is a one-bottle solution that is used to rinse, clean, disinfect and remove protein.

I have trouble seeing at night while driving.

Firstly, your glasses maybe slightly too weak causing blurred vision. Secondly, your contacts may be filmy or dirty or need a new prescription. Lastly, don't underestimate the need to keep your windshields clean. This should be done at each fill-up.

I am having trouble inserting my contacts

1. Place the wet, clean "right" lens on the tip of the index or middle finger of your dominant hand (if you're right-handed this would be your right hand), and pull down the lower lid with the middle or ring finger of the same hand. Use your other hand to hold the upper lid firmly open.

2. Look directly at the lens or look directly into a mirror and place the lens directly on the cornea (the large colored circle in the center of your eye).

3. Slowly release your hold on the lid. If there are any air bubbles beneath the lens, close your eye, and with the eye closed, roll the eye gently. Another way of getting rid of air bubbles is to massage the lids very lightly. Under no condition, however, should your rub your eyes.
