LASIK FAQs

LASIK FAQs from Your New Smyrna Beach Optometrist

Beach Vision provides optometry and eye care services to clients in New Smyrna Beach, Ponce Inlet and Edgewater. Our optometrist provides LASIK vision surgery to restore your vision and help you say goodbye to fumbling for glasses to walk across the room in the morning. We put together a list of frequently asked questions for clients considering LASIK.

.

What is LASIK?

LASIK surgery can eliminate your reliance on contacts or eyeglasses. During the procedure, a laser gently reshapes your cornea regulated by computer-controlled precision. The procedure can correct farsightedness, nearsightedness, and astigmatism.

Who Is a Good Candidate?

If you are over 18 years old and have had a stable eye prescription for at least one year, you may be a good candidate for LASIK. Pregnant women may wish to wait until they deliver before scheduling the surgery.

Will LASIK Give Me 20/20 Vision?

No one can guarantee results that lead to perfect vision. Previous clients reported that they could drive, watch TV, and play sports without glasses. It is a life-changing event.

Is LASIK Safe?

Complications from laser vision correction are rare. Plus, Beach Vision has some of the most experienced LASIK surgeons in the nation. Bring your questions to your consultation and feel free to conduct your own research prior to making your final decision. The better informed you are, the more confident you will feel when you come in for the procedure.

Is the Procedure Painful?

We give you anesthetic drops to numb your eyes before your LASIK surgery. You may feel slight pressure around your eye during the procedure, which is usually fast.

How Soon Before I Can Resume Regular Activities?

You receive a list of instructions for the first few weeks to make sure that your eyes heal properly. However, many people return to work the following day. Recovery tends to be extremely fast, with most clients reporting clear vision within two days. Your optometrist will ask you to avoid swimming and contact sports as well as a few other activities for a few weeks. You may need to sleep with special goggles to avoid rubbing your eyes.

Can the Doctor Treat Both Eyes Simultaneously?

Yes. Our optometrist typically treats both eyes during the same LASIK procedure.

How Long Does the Vision Correction Last?

Distance vision correction is permanent. However, age-related changes impact your vision just as they would without LASIK.

Will I Need Reading Glasses?

The main goal of LASIK is to correct distance vision. You may need reading glasses for the computer or traditional print media.
