Traditional Glasses vs Contact Lenses
Most eye care patients who need vision correction have the choice of selecting traditional glasses or contact lenses. Both methods bring the world into sharper focus. A doctor of optometry can guide you towards the best decision for your eyes and your lifestyle. Our optometrist at Beach Vision assists patients in New Smyrna Beach as well as in our neighboring communities of Ponce Inlet and Edgewater.
Traditional Glasses
Traditional glasses are a very straightforward way to correct vision. They are available in single vision prescriptions or as bifocals, trifocals, and progressives to correct vision up close, at a medium focal length, and a distance. A patient can take glasses on and off quickly and easily. There is usually no adjustment time for a pair of glasses. Glasses wearers also don't have to touch their eyes to correct their vision.
Traditional glasses wearers with strong prescriptions or a correction for astigmatism may find their frames to be heavy. Glasses can fog up and become splattered with rain. Glasses are sometimes cumbersome during sports.
Contact Lenses
Contact lenses correct vision more naturally because the wearer is not looking up, down, or around lenses and frames. There can be a learning curve for inserting and removing lenses, as well as an adjustment time for the eyes. Patients with astigmatism often need toric lenses for the best vision, and those are more expensive than standard contact lenses. Contacts do not respond to the weather and are often easier to wear while playing sports.
