LASIK FAQs

LASIK surgery is extremely popular and is done to correct a person’s vision who suffers from a refractive vision error. LASIK works by reshaping the cornea. We at Devine Eyes have put together a list of frequently asked questions for those who need a bit more understanding of what LASIK is.

.

What is the purpose of LASIK?

Your vision can be completely blurry if the light doesn’t focus on your retina how it should. This is known as a refractive vision error. The purpose of LASIK eye surgery is to eliminate a person’s refractive vision error, such as myopia, hyperopia, or astigmatism, by altering the shape of that person’s cornea.

What are the benefits of LASIK?

LASIK involves very minimal pain, if any. It is a surgery that has been around for roughly 25 years. Approximately 96% of people do experience the vision goals they have been expecting following surgery. LASIK does not require any stitches or bandages. The best part about LASIK is that you will not need to use your glasses or contact lenses as much or at all following LASIK surgery.

Are there any risks associated with LASIK?

As with any surgery, LASIK does include some risks:

  • You may lose your best correctable vision, although rare.

What are some common side effects of LASIK surgery?

Following surgery, it is common for patients to experience some discomfort in their eyes for a day or two. There are some other side effects, that are rare and will go away with time, such as:

  • Difficulty driving at night
  • Seeing halos surrounding images
  • Glare
  • Vision that fluctuates
  • Scratchy eyes
