Myopia Control in Kids

Here at Kozlovsky Delay & Winter Eye Consultants, LLC we offer vision correction and eye care services for children, as well as adults. Along with pediatric eye exams, we provide specialized treatments and therapies including myopia control. Check out what myopia or nearsightedness is and how this type of treatment may benefit your child.

What is Myopia and How Does an Eye Doctor Treat This Condition?

Myopia is the condition referred to as nearsightedness. If your child is diagnosed with myopia we may be able to slow its progression and cure the condition using myopia control. With myopia treatments at an early age, you can help to reshape their cornea and improve their vision permanently as they develop rather than requiring vision correction later in life.

What is Myopia Control?

When we treat myopia here at Kozlovsky Delay & Winter Eye Consultants, LLC we use a method called myopia control. This is a therapy that slows the progression of myopia or nearsightedness using a variety of therapies.

What Are the Most Common Types of Myopia Control for Children?

There are a number of ways that we can perform myopia control for children. These methods are based on the specific needs and lifestyle of the child being treated. Gas permeable contact lenses used for ortho-K or overnight vision correction is a popular treatment method. Bifocals and multifocal lenses may also be used for some cases of myopia control.

When Should I Bring My Child for a Myopia Exam?

We test for myopia with a comprehensive eye exam that we recommend for all infants by age six months. We can start providing myopia control to help remedy any early signs of nearsightedness.
