Meet the Doctors

Kristin McArdle O.D.

Dr. McArdle

Dr. McArdle is originally from Monroe, WI. She attended UW-Madison, where she received her undergraduate degree in Biology. She earned her Doctorate of Optometry from Southern College of Optometry in 2019, graduating Magna Cum Laude. Dr. McArdle trained at The Eye Center in Memphis, TN and at the George E. Wahlen VA Hospital in Salt Lake City, UT. She enjoys working with patients of all ages and has a special interest in prescribing contact lenses. In her free time, Dr. McArdle enjoys spending time with family and friends, attending Badger games, and playing tennis. 


Kesha Desai O.D.

Dr. Desai

Dr. Desai graduated in 2016 from the Illinois College of Optometry in Chicago, IL. She got her B.S. in Psychology and B.S. in Biology from Loyola University of Chicago. She is currently a member of the Wisconsin Optometric Association and the American Optometric Association. She comes to Madison Eye Contact with experience in prescribing glasses and contact lenses, diagnosing and managing ocular disease, and managing pediatrics. Dr. Desai enjoys traveling, spending time with her husband exploring Madison, and visiting her family and friends. 


David W. Nelson O.D., MBA

Dr. David W. Nelson

Dr. David W. Nelson is a board certified optometrist*, an advanced certification awarded by the American Board of Optometry.  Dr Nelson graduated from the Indiana University School of Optometry in 1985.  He graduated from the University of Wisconsin School of Business with a diversified Masters in Business Administration in 1991. Dr. Nelson served in 2001-02 as President of the American Optometric Association, a 33,000 member organization of optometrists, following his eight years of service on the Board of Trustees. He currently provides consulting and educational lectures across the United States for optometric colleagues in newly advancing areas of retinal assessment with advanced technology, age-related macular degeneration genetic testing, and nutrition supplement prescribing for improved eye health.  He is also on Signet Armorlite’s Education Board, manufacturer of Kodak Brand Spectacle and Progressive Lenses.

Valerie Vanden Boom O.D.

Dr. Vanden Boom

Dr. Vanden Boom joined Eye Contact in 1991 and has been practicing continually at the west side office since. She graduated from the University of Missouri School of Optometry in 1990 after receiving a bachelor's degree in biology and chemistry from Southwest Missouri State University. She is a member of both the Wisconsin and American Optometric Associations. Specialty contact lenses and refractive surgery consultation as well as peri-operative care are among Dr. Vanden Boom's areas of interest. Dr. Vanden Boom enjoys running, gardening and spending time with family and friends.
