Keep reading to learn more about aging and your eye health.

How Does Aging Affect the Eyes?

As you age, your vision will begin to change. Although this is a natural part of aging, it can be unsettling for some people. There are certain conditions that can also affect the eyes more as we age. Conditions such as macular degeneration can cause the various parts of the eyes to lose functionality. This can be further complicated through poor vision hygiene and exposure to UV rays.

Our diet and other health problems can also affect our eyes. Problems such as high blood pressure or diabetes can take a toll on the eyes.

How Can I Protect My Eyes as I Age?

The best thing you can do to protect your eyes is to prioritize your eye health. This will include making annual eye exam appointments. If you have an eyeglasses prescription, remember to wear your glasses at the appropriate times. You should also have your prescription updated when necessary so that you are not putting unnecessary strain on your eyes.

Eating a diet full of brightly colored fruits and vegetables can also help ensure you are getting the right amount of vitamins and nutrients needed for eye health.
