OptiK investigational in office laser surgery for farsighted eyes

Information about the invesigational OptiK laser correction surgery.

Why is MyVision Changing? Many of us are farsighted - a condition in which the cornea is not curved enough or the eye is not long enough. Farsightedness causes light rays to focus behind the retina, leading to blurred vision. In youth, the lenses of the eyes can compensate for low to moderate amounts of farsightedness by changing their shape to focus light rays properly on the retina. With increasing age, due to increasing presbyopia, farsighted persons have increasing difficulty seeing objects Optimal Keratoplasty (Opti-K™) is performed outside the visual zone (where you actually “see”). Using two concentric rings of laser energy delivered outside the visual zone of the eye,  Opti-K™ uses mild heat to change the shape of the cornea. OptiK™ is completely non-invasive — no tissue is cut or removed. Vision improvement is achieved immediately after Opti-K™) .

Are you A Candidate? If you are 40 or over and depend on glasses or contact lenses to correct your vision, this procedure may be of benefit to you. You’ll need to schedule an appointment with an eye care professional for a complete eye evaluation. The purpose of this evaluation is to test your vision, both near and far to pinpoint your exact need. An evaluation is required to determine the exact cause of your poor vision. Once a diagnosis has been made, a recommendation will follow as to whether Optimal Keratoplasty (Opti-K™)  is the right choice for you.

What Should I Expect?

For Optimal Keratoplasty (Opti-K™), the physician will first instill anesthetic drops into your study eye and will place a patch over your other eye to block light. Next the physician will place an illuminated light cup between your eyelids, contacting your cornea with a sapphire lens. You will be a asked to gaze at the center of a blinking fixation light to help align your eye. Then suction will be applied to stabilize the light cup on your eye. Laser energy will be applied for less than 3 seconds during which you will hear three beeps telling us the treatment has started and finished. You can see a procedure by going to Dr. Salz's Youtube channel link on the home page and clickin on "Laser eye surgery using an Apple I-Pad.

Before, during, and after the treatment, your physician will be carefully following your progress on a video monitor. Finally, eye care instructions and your important follow up visits will be scheduled.

Below is one week magnified photo of cornea showing the laser spots are difficult to visualize.

Reviews From Our Satisfied Patients

  • "We use Anderson Optometry for all of our family’s vision needs. Recently, we had to have our youngest fitted for new glasses and he made the experience fun for her and informative for us. We know Dr. Anderson will always take good care of our family’s eye care and that’s why we wouldn’t go to anywhere else."

  • "Dr. Anderson and his staff are so patient and friendly. Dr. Anderson prescribed me glasses and I had the toughest time picking out frames. They didn’t rush, but instead made helpful suggestions and now I have an awesome pair of frames, not to mention the fact that I can see ten times better than before. You guys are the best!"
