Protect Your Peepers!
It’s heating up! Summer is just around the corner. That means it’s time to bust out the shorts, tank tops, and swimsuits! And remember sunscreen! According to the American Cancer Society, over 1 million cases of skin cancer are diagnosed annually in the USA. Ultraviolet radiation is also very harmful to the eyes. It contributes to many eye diseases including macular degeneration and glaucoma. That’s why it’s super important to protect your peepers!
Sunglasses are the best way to protect your eyes from the sun, but not all sunglasses filter out UVA and UVB rays. In addition to the darkness of the tint, pay attention to labels and packaging that state a percentage of UV protection.
There are additional features that can be added to lenses with UV protection, including: Polarization, Gradient or Colored Tints, Mirror Coatings, and Transitions (lenses that darken outside). All of these options can be added to prescription lenses and made to fit most frames.
