“My interest in the field of medicine began when I was 10 years old and was influenced by my mother, who was a nurse for the United States Air Force. I went on to earn my medical degree from the Tulane University School of Medicine. I became fascinated with the field of ophthalmology while conducting research on the eye during my residency at Duke University Eye Center. I decided to specialize in retinal surgery because it requires a combination of skill and sensitivity to correct conditions that are highly complex in nature.

“When I started my practicie over 20 years ago, my goal was to provide patients with not only the latest and most effective surgical solutions for their retinal problems but also the friendly, informative and focused care they deserve. Today, I’m proud to say that I still uphold these standards on a daily basis for every patient I see.”

-Kent W. Small, MD
