Dr. Small recently attended the American Ophthalmological Society (AOS) where he discussed our recent research on North Carolina Macular Dystrophy (NCMD/MCDR1). Dr. Small has been studying this disease for more than 30 years and made a breakthrough about 2 years ago. Dr. Small found the gene that causes the mutation for NCMD. During this discussion, Dr. Small focused on how new multi-modal imaging such as Optical Coherence Tomography Angiography (OCT-A) and functional testing aid in providing new and vital insights into the developmental nature if NCMD and the human macula. We are currently in the process of publishing our findings and we will share them with you when it is published.
