Did you know we have a dedicated team of optometrists to help with vision correction using contact lenses? Dr. Chad Shultz, Dr. Thomas Grischow and Dr. Nicholas Lawrence are accepting new patients. If you have never worn contact lenses in the past, and you are interested in trying them for your vision correction, contact Eye Care Associates and schedule a consultation. If you live in Youngstown, Warren, Poland, or the surrounding area, one of our optometrists can provide the proper examination and prescription needed for your new contact lenses. Here is what you can expect during your appointment.
Documentation Is Collected
When you first arrive, you will be asked questions regarding your overall health and current vision capabilities. Our eye doctor will use this information as a starting point to determine whether you have any medical issues that will require intervention. Bring your insurance card if you have vision insurance so we can reach out to your provider to learn more about your plan information.
A Contact Lens Exam Is Conducted
You will need to participate in a few tests to find out if your eyes are healthy. These are non-invasive tests and only take a few minutes to complete. If a problem is discovered, the eye doctor will discuss treatment options with you. After this portion of the contact lens exam, you will need to read a chart of numbers and/or letters from a distance away. The practitioner will monitor your answers and make changes to the size of the images to see how far you can read the characters without difficulty. Different lenses are then placed in front of your eyes to sharpen the images. This will determine your prescription strength. Take your time while answering the questions and do not feel pressured to make a definitive answer as sometimes the lenses used for testing are very similar in vision strength.
Lenses Are Fitted and Tried On
During a contact lens exam, your eyes need to be measured so the lenses do not slip out of place. This is an easy process where you simply look into a machine while our eye doctor measures the diameters of your irises. You will then be given a sample pair of contact lenses to try on to ensure they are a perfect fit. If we have your prescription strength and size available, you can purchase your contact lenses immediately and bring them home with you. However, we may need to order your lenses and will contact you when they arrive. You will also need to make another appointment as a follow-up visit so our optometrist can check your eyes with your contact lenses in place to ensure they are not causing any problems.
