Contact Lens Exams

If you are thinking about transitioning from glasses to contact lenses, you may have already learned about the many benefits of wearing contacts. While wearing contacts, you have complete peripheral vision, and the right contact lenses can sit comfortably in your eye. If you live in or around Inglewood and would like to make the switch from glasses to contact, contact our ophthalmologist, Leroy Vaughn, MD, to schedule a contact lens exam.

Why Is a Contact Lens Fitting Important?

A contact lens fitting is crucial because there are several types of contact lenses. Many people wear soft lenses, which help people who are nearsighted, farsighted, or diagnosed with astigmatism. Hard contacts are more rigid and are suitable for extreme vision issues. Our eye doctor determines if you are a good candidate for either type of lens or a hybrid lens based on your vision and existing eye conditions.

What to Expect During a Contact Lens Exam

Contact lens exams are a bit different than regular eye exams. During your first exam, our eye doctor will test your visual acuity. We will place different lenses in front of your eyes to determine which lens is the clearest. This is not unlike a typical eye exam. Based on the answers you provide, our eye doctor will have you sample some contact lenses for your eyes. If the lenses fit and feel comfortable, you will take them home for a week or two to try out.

At your second eye exam with our ophthalmologist, you will arrive in your lenses to let us know how they feel. We will ask questions about your experience while wearing the lenses. We will be able to make adjustments at this time if the lenses are not working for you. Otherwise, you will receive your prescription and we will order your supply.
